Usually for Lunchtime Lyrics, I choose songs you know and love and give you a little backstory as to how it actually came to be. Today I went another direction. This is a newer release from Andru Jamison called “Empty Bottle“. This could be a Second Listen tune as well, but the story and the message are worthy of a lunchtime treatment.
Andru Jamison is a Combat Army Medic Veteran who rights his own lyrics and melodies. Why this is significant is Jamison writes from his own experiences. Because he does, he can put the appropriate emotion into the performance because he believes and feels every word. “Empty Bottle” won Song of the Year: Country at the Grand Ole Opry JMA’s just one year after launching his career in music. Uniquely, Andru is also bringing awareness to those struggling with mental health assuring them that they are not alone in their battle. A survivor of suicide attempts himself he speaks from a place of genuine support. Every place he plays he gains new fans and will be on the country scene for a long time to come.
“Cause your love kept me out of trouble
Like a pack of Marlboros always kept me sane
And your heart beating next to mine at midnight
Got me drunk in love like the whiskey in my veins
Without you I’m doin this alone
With a broken heart and an empty bottle”
